Two donkeys, a common story...

A somewhat mysterious rescue...
Contacted by the association Les Sabots dans le Potager , I learned of the existence of a wild donkey and her foal. Without further ado, we set off for Miradoux, ready to discover this famous wild creature. And indeed, the spectacle was striking: impossible to get close, we had to judge their condition from afar.

Despite everything, all was not lost! With patience and strategy, we managed to get them into the van. On the way back, we thought hard about their future names: for the mother, it would be Samba , and for the little male, whom we could barely make out under his shaggy fur, Gribouille .

Samba is deeply traumatized. The mere presence of humans sends her into a panic: she throws herself against walls, ready to escape by any means necessary. Gribouille, younger and probably with a less tumultuous past, is curious and sociable. Within a week, he lets himself be touched and the surprise is real when I discover small breasts under his belly!!
The little male is actually a little female 😊
Brief reflection, Gribouille will remain Gribouille, even as a girl!!

Over time, Samba learned to tolerate my presence. She accepted calls by her first name, sometimes let me scratch her ears... but physical contact remained rare and at her own pace. Her gaze betrayed an ancient fear, a painful past that one could guess was marked by abuse. Even after three years, this mistrust remains deeply rooted, but she now lives in a secure environment, surrounded by a peaceful herd.

Gribouille, for her part, has become a beautiful dairy donkey and a super mom! She has her little character but is overflowing with love.
